During these hot and humid summer months, it can sometimes seem impossible to control your hair. Not all women’s hair suffers from humidity, but those who do know what kind of disastrous hair problems can occur. There are some simple steps that can be taken to reduce or even eliminate the effect of the humidity on your hair, and beat the heat once and for all!
The simplest step is to work with your hair instead of against it. There’s no use trying to make your hair do something it doesn’t want to during these brutal summer months. You’ll end up with a half-hazard looking do, if you’re lucky to get that far. Instead, try working with your natural hair texture and type. By sticking with your natural look, you can tame it enough through use of product to achieve a great look!
Flat Hair Caused by Humidity
If your hair falls flat due to humidity, try a layered haircut. It helps take-off weight, as well as adding texture and volume, no matter what the weather. If you don’t want to change your whole hair style, there are several styling tips to help prevent lifeless hair. Use a shampoo and conditioner made for fine hair. These products tend to be lighter, and won’t leave residue that, combined with the moisture from the humidity, weighs hair down. Some great lightweight products to try are Chi Silk Infusion or Hana Shineshield. The fewer products you can use the better. However, the use of a volumizer to damp roots when blow-drying, will ensure a lift that should hold even against the highest humidity. Style as usual, and finish with hairspray, preferably flexible hold.
Frizzy Hair Caused by Humidity
Curly and wavy hair types most commonly become frizzy when exposed to humidity. A long, angled hair cut is the way to go, because it adds more weight to the hair, which helps prevent extra frizz. The angles will prevent your hair from looking too bulky. If you want to keep your current hair style, there are some styling options to help prevent first. When in the shower, right before you get out, rinse your hair with very cold water. This seals the cuticles, which can drastically eliminate frizz for the whole day. After your shower, apply a hair serum to wet hair and blot with a towel to remove excess moisture. Apply a strong-hold gel from roots to ends and comb through. Style as normal, and then rub smoothing hair cream over ends and frizz-prone areas. Blow-drying curly hair during months of humid weather should be avoided at all costs. Blow-drying extracts moisture from your hair and vastly increases the amount of frizz. If you insist on blow-drying, leave your hair a little damp to keep some of the moisture locked in. This will help eliminate some of the frizz, though air-dry is still your best option. Or, skip the drying step altogether with a Wet to Dry Flat Iron – just towel dry the excess water out of your hair and iron away!
