The Best Products for Healthy Hair
Every woman wants healthy, shiny, beautiful hair. Flat irons, hair dryers,
curling irons and even crimpers clutter the counters of bathrooms everywhere to keep us looking gorgeous. And for the most part, they do their job. They curl when we’re feeling sexy, they straighten when we’re feeling casual, they blow dry when we’re feeling, well, ready to start the day! But misuse can give thermal beauty tools a bad rep, and cause unnecessary damage that is so easily avoidable! Here are some great tips to keep your hair looking and feeling great.

- Sulfate-free Shampoo - Healthy hair does not need sulfates. We know mom always said the more suds the better when lathering up your hair, but sadly Mom, this is not always the case. Sulfate-free shampoos won’t strip your hair and cause unnecessary damage. If you’re using thermal beauty tools, the last thing you want to do is start off with damaged hair!
- Professional Brands - They’re called professional for a reason, and the cheap stuff just doesn’t compare. Bargain bin hair products might be gentle to your wallet but they won’t do your hair any favors. Think about this – when does your hair feel its absolute best? Probably right after a trip to the salon. And what kind of hair products are they using there? Professional! It’s not a coincidence, honey, it really works.
- Heat Protectant Products - I just cringe when I hear about people who choose not to, or even worse have never heard they need to, use heat protectant products . There are tons of choices on the market, find one that you like and always, always, always use it! The difference will be between soft, silky hair and singed, dry hair – the choice is yours!
- Leave-in Conditioner - This is the saving grace for your hair. When constantly putting heat on your hair, it’s important to give it a layer of protection with a leave-in conditioner. For those with finer hair types, try a spray in leave-in treatment which won’t weigh your hair down but will still give you the protection you need!
- Serums and Pomades - These are two very different products but they achieve the same goal. They’re both used to tame fly aways and add shine. Don’t overdo it with these products – find your ideal dose and enjoy!

There is one more important product which is so often overlooked that it’s just sad! The hair brush you use to style with is just as important as the styling tool you shelled out the big bucks for! Different hair types call for different brushes, and before you try returning that hair dryer that you think just doesn’t work for your hair type, try using it with a professional brush. Let’s think back to what our stylists use at the salon again – they know what they’re doing!
- Long Hair - Use a large vented paddle brush while drying and then a boar bristle brush to smooth out the top layers.
- Short Hair - Use a narrow vented paddle brush and lift at the roots for volume. Use a round brush after or during the last minutes of drying for flipping ends out or under.
- Bonus Tip - Ceramic brushes are a great all around choice. They retain heat which helps your hair dry faster and keep its style.
