A Guide for Damaged Hair

As a woman on the go, I know we often find ourselves rushing out the door to work, to pick up the kids, to take care of errands and whatever else we can squeeze into the day. But we are forgetting one very important thing – ourselves! For most of us busy women a shower is a quick step we take to wake up and get clean for the day. But when you get to that point in life when you just can’t devote the time you once could to keep yourself looking and feeling great, it’s important to remember not to give up. Don’t work harder, work smarter! You’d be surprised how a good quality shampoo and condition in the morning can make you feel like you’ve just left the salon – as long as you’re using the right products for your hair type.

For Fine Hair, Oily

This hair type needs to be washed daily to avoid greasy build up, which will weigh your hair down. You’ll want to use a clarifying shampoo and a lightweight water based conditioner. Remember to start lathering the conditioner at ear level, as the hair closest to your scalp doesn’t need to be conditioned. Rinse well, and start your day!

For Fine Hair, Dull and Dry Girl with Blonde Hair

This is the polar opposite of fine, oily hair. You won’t need to wash this hair daily as it will tend to dry out and be prone to damage. Use a gentle shampoo, even try baby shampoo, and always use conditioner. The conditioner should be mild and made specifically for dry or damaged hair. Rinse well to avoid product build up, which will weigh down fine hair.

For Curly, Wavy, Frizzy Hair

This hair type typically tends to be dryer than most, and needs a little more product than fine hair. Use a rich (in texture not price!) moisturizing shampoo and conditioner daily to keep your hair looking its. Try skipping a shampoo every other day and just using conditioner. The more moisture locked in the hair follicles, the less frizz you’ll have, and the better your day will be!

For Dry, Ethnic Hair Girl with Ethnic Hair

This hair type tends to be dry, brittle, and prone to damage. Moisture is a must. Focus more on your roots while shampooing to ensure the ends don’t become dried out. After rinsing well, apply a conditioner specifically made for ethnic or dry hair. It’s best to leave the conditioner on your hair for a short while if possible before rinsing out. Deep conditioning treatments twice a week are also highly advised. You might think, who has the time? Well make time, honey, because this won’t take nearly as much time and money as fixing damaged hair will. Besides, if you’re looking your best you’ll find you get a lot more done in the day. When you look good, you feel good!

For Permed, Relaxed, and/or Color Treated Hair

When your hair is chemically treated, it should be washed less often than usual. This hair type will be more susceptible to breakage and excessive drying. A hydrating moisturizing shampoo is important and in this case your roots need as much attention as your ends. A hydrating conditioner is also a must, and don’t forget about the leave-in conditioner twice a week. Let’s not forget, you asked for this hair type and you paid good money for it so it’s important to take the time to maintain it.

Follow these tips closely and you’ll find that even though you know longer have hours to spend trying out new hair products and styles, it doesn’t take too long to make the best of what you’ve got!
