Hair Emergencies

Hair is a fickle friend – sometimes you slave away at it only to end up looking like a French poodle. Other days you don’t brush it, let it air-dry and somehow you turn out looking like Gisele. But try to do the same thing the next day and its drown-rat city. I’m offering some quick and dirty fixes for the most common hair snafus.

Hair Emergencies!

1)  An at home trim sometimes turns bangs too short and too crooked.
First off, this can be prevented in one of two ways – go to the salon! Most salons offer a bang trim for much cheaper than a normal trim. If you must trim your bangs at home, you should be very cautious, never ever cut your own hair above the eyebrow line. But let’s say it’s too late for either of these tips. In that case twist your bang-lettes back and secure them to the side with a bobby pin or two, not too tight. This has the added bonus of giving a little volume and interest around the face.

2)  Curls or waves turn frizzy on a humid or rainy day
Now is the time to turn to a hair accessory, and fast. Your easiest option is to go with a head-scarf - It’s stylish and screams silver screen siren. But if old-fashioned elegant just won’t go with the mini skirt you’re wearing that day a wide headband or a cute barrette – tucking hair into the half-up style – also provide a good fix. Be sure to keep one neutral barrette in your purse.

3)  Greasy and flat hair from hot weather, humid weather, or lack of shampooing
I have hair that has to be shampooed every day, otherwise it lays flat against my head. However, I also have that problem where you don’t get out of bed until the absolute last minute in the morning. This means I can either slap my hair up into a messy bun (a surprisingly cute and affective cure for these ailments) or dry shampoo. You just spray at the roots, brush hair with a paddle brush upside down, and – I swear – vavoom! It looks like you just got a $50 blow-out!

4)  You’ve been missing your salon or at home color dates and your roots don’t lie
This is a tough one. Again, a messy bun can be your best friend. Anything where your hair is too flat is a dead giveaway – you end up with a color line wrapped around your head. A crooked part with a lot of volume at the roots is another good move – anything that creates extra movement.

5)  Winter static has you clinging to everything in sight
if this is the case, you must moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Your hair needs to be deep conditioned in the winter twice a week, even if it’s fine. Another good idea is adding a dandruff shampoo/conditioner at least three times a week. It increases moisture and helps with the snow on your shoulders that isn’t related to the forecast.
