We all wish to have gorgeous and lustrous tresses without having to spend a fortune on hair care products, donít we? Well, Iím here to tell you that it is possible. There are some easy and effective hair care recipes that can be prepared using ingredients that are available in most household kitchens. Thereís nothing wrong with using commercial products, so long as you pamper your hair from time to time. You can do this with some natural recipes that will nourish your hair while taking care of the damage done by the harmful chemicals present in many of those commercial products.
First of all, you need to find out your hair type based on its texture and appearance, whether it is oily, dry, curly, straight, thin or thick. Once you determine what type of hair you have, it becomes easy to decide what works for you. Here are some natural hair care recipes that can be prepared at home to treat each of these problems.
Dry and Frizzy Hair: Avocado Conditioner
Dry hair needs to be pampered a lot as a loss in moisture can make it look dry, dull and lifeless. Deep moisturization is something that your hair needs at least once a week. Hereís how to make your own deep conditioner to deal with dry and frizzy hair.
- 1 Ripe Avocado
- 1 Tbsp Honey
- 2-3 drops Rosemary Essential Oil
Take one ripe avocado and use a blender or mash to make a smooth paste. Add honey and rosemary essential oil to the mixture and apply it liberally on your hair. Cover your head with a cling film (plastic wrap) and rinse off after 30 minutes with cold water. This recipe de-frizzes your hair and makes it soft and smooth. If you canít find Rosemary oil, this will still work wonders.
Oily Hair: Strawberry and Pomegranate Hair Mask
Oily hair is another problem which can make your hair look flat and lifeless. Hereís how you make your own hair conditioner for oily hair.
- 8-9 Fresh Strawberries
- 1/2 Cup Low Fat Yogurt
- 5-6 Tbsp. Pomegranate Juice
Blend 8-9 fresh strawberries, add yogurt and pomegranate juice to it. Apply liberally on your hair, cover your head with a cling film (plastic wrap) and rinse off after 30 minutes with cold water. This recipe takes care of excess oil and gives your hair shine and healthy appearance.
Thin/Fine Hair: Volumizing Hair Conditioner
Fine hair can be really frustrating because in many cases no matter what you do your hair tends to look limp, flat and lifeless. It is even worse if you have oily hair with this texture because oily hair itself looks flat - if you have fine hair then its time for you to look for volumizing shampoo and conditioner or make your own conditioner to tackle this problem.
- 3 Egg Yolks
- 6 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- One Vitamin E Capsule
Beat egg yolks, prick one vitamin E gel caplet and squeeze the content into the bowl and add olive oil. Now apply this mixture and rinse off with cold water after 30 minutes. This recipe pumps up your hair volume.
Shiny Hair: Vinegar Hair Tonic
Good old vinegar is a wonderful hair tonic that gives you shiny hair and takes care of dandruff and excess oil. For this recipe you will need the following:
- One Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
- One Tsp. Lemon Juice
- One Mug Cold Water
Pour apple cider, vinegar, and lemon juice into a mug of cold water. Shampoo your hair with your regular shampoo and use this tonic as a final rinse.
Dry and Brittle Hair: Strengthening Conditioner
Most of us donít think about the consequences of using hair styling products. Regular use of these styling products can actually make our hair dry and brittle which can eventually lead to hair loss and other hair and scalp-related problems. So itís not a good idea to overlook it, especially if you have color treated hair, or if you use hair styling products (such as hair gel, mousse, spray or cream) on a regular basis.
- 3 Tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel
- 1 Cup Coconut Milk
- 3 Drops Rosemary Essential Oil
- 3 Tbsp. Honey
- 3 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
Mix everything together and apply. Rinse off after 30 minutes with lukewarm water. This recipe moisturizes your hair and makes it strong and healthy.
