When selecting a few hot spring hairstyles for 2009, I felt I didn’t need to look any further then the “it girl” herself, Lauren Conrad. This "The Hills" star is constantly setting trends, and she always has amazing looking tresses.
This wavy, pulled back style is the best of both worlds; gorgeous and simple to achieve. Begin with a center part. Separate your hair into top and bottom sections. Clip the top section up so it is out of the way.
I’ve found that "clipless"
curling irons seem to create the best waves, but if you don’t have a clipless iron all you have to do is wrap 1 inch strands of hair around the entire barrel... Don’t use the clip.
Once you have worked all the way around your head, set with hairspray. Unclip the top portion of hair and curl slightly larger strands around the barrel, stopping once you are about two inches away from the top of your head. Set this portion with hairspray as well.
Finally, take one inch sections of hair from both sides of your head. Twist loosely and secure them to the back of your head with bobby pins. Set with a shine spray.
The side braid is a perfect look for warmer weather and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Start with a deep side part. Take a 2 inch section from the very front and French braid as far as you can. Secure the end of the braid with a bobby pin and spray with a light hold hairspray. Pull the rest of your hair into a low ponytail and curl the ends with a medium barrel curling iron. Or, if you like, you can choose to leave the hair down, either sleek/straight or in loose waves.
This kind of low, "undone" updo is all the rage for spring; however it takes some practice and patience to achieve this particular look. As with any updo, working with day or two old dirty hair will produce the best results. If your hair is clean, using texturizing products will dirty it up a little and help hold the style better.
Start out by parting your hair down the center, and then sectioning the hair, clipping up the sections that are waiting to be curled. Working section by section, use a medium barrel curling iron to curl 1 inch strands of hair. Allow your hair to cool and set each section with a medium to firm-hold hairspray.
Now, pretend as if you were pulling back the top portion of your hair to create a half-up/half-down look. Take that top section and clip it on top of your head so that it's out of the way. Put the remaining bottom half of your hair in a low, messy bun with an elastic band.
After unclipping the top portion, separate strands into half-inch sections. Twist each one and loosely bobby pin them into the messy bun, making loops out of the curled ends of hair. A sort of basket weave effect is created by twisting the strands overtop of previous strands. Finish this look by setting with more hairspray.
